Does My Choice Of Tires Affect Porsche Performance?

When it comes to choosing tires, most vehicle owners tend to choose those that look good. However, there is more to tires than meets the eye.  You may not know it but tires have a direct impact your Porsche’s performance.  Choose the right tires is also crucial to your safety while on the road. To that extent, choosing the right tire is imperative. Choose those that are recommended by your Porsche mechanic and you can be sure you’ll enjoy a safe drive. You can also be sure your Porsche’s performance will remain at its optimum.

Diameter

Most people prefer large tires because of their appearance. The diameter of a wheel is the number by which it is listed in a tire shop. This diameter is very key when it comes to stability. When driving at high speeds, a larger wheel diameter will guarantee you more stability. The wheel also allows for a much greater baking power. The reason behind this is that larger tires have room for larger brake rotors.

On the other hand, there are a few setbacks I terms of performance when choosing larger tires. This is in terms of being vulnerable to bending, difficult turning and cornering, and the fact that they make the ride bumpy. This is because they have a sidewall that is thinner in order to create room for the wheel size.

Width

Generally a wider tire is associated with more traction and better car performance. This is true to some extent but not always. The width of a tire goes hand in hand with the suspension a car can cater for. In case the suspension is insufficient, the wider tires will pose a big challenge when it comes to handling your Porsche. You may experience difficulties in controlling your steering wheel. With that in mind, be sure to check your Porsche’s suspension vis-à-vis its tire width.

Tread Thickness

The depth of treads is important especially in braking as well as traction. If you choose thicker tires with thicker treads, you may have get some benefits. This is because the thick treads enable the tire to cut through mud, sand, water or snow. This means that you will be able to avoid getting stuck in mud or snow. You will also be able to reduce the risk of sliding down a snowy hill, or spinning out of control. Thicker treads can also help you to respond quickly during emergencies. They allow for instant braking, due to their great traction which makes your car to grip the road better. However, thicker treads are noisier and you may not need them if you live in an area that experiences hot and dry weather conditions.

Rigidity

The rigidity of your tires can affect the performance of your Porsche. The tires may either be soft or harder. Softer tires account for superior traction and braking power because they can grip the road better. The only downside to this is that they do not fare well in tough terrains, and are therefore not that durable. They may be damaged by gravel and portholes. Harder tires on the other hand are more durable and can withstand tougher terrains. However they do not offer traction as much as their counterparts.
