How Do I Adjust My Porsche Wiper Tension?
Your Porsche wiper blades are unique. They are designed to last as is the case with almost all components that come along with Porsche models. After some time though, they give in to wear and tear. They then fail to wipe as well as they should. This has a lot to do with continuous exposure to inclement weather conditions. It should worry you. Thankfully though, there’s a lot you can do to remedy the situation. Keep in mind that this is a safety issue solely because it affects visibility. With that in mind, have the issue fixed as soon as you can. Read on to learn more.
Red Flags
You’ll first notice a squeaking which may or may not be accompanied by a chattering sound. This happens because the wiper blade cannot roll over the center. The best you can do when this happens is to adjust tension. Chattering sound may also mean the wiper blade has completely lost its flexibility. As such, it won’t be long before the blades begin to either skip across the windshield or to chatter. Adjust tension to avoid worsening the situation.
The Process
Turn the ignition to the ‘on’ position but do not start the engine. Turn on the wipers then stop them in ‘Park’ position which should be the lowest part of your Porsche’s wipe pattern. Lift off one of the wiper blades manually off the windshield. Release it and allow it to hit the windshield. This stands out as one of the most effective ways to adjust wiper blade tension.
Examine the park line. It looks more or less like a horizontal mark on the windshield. As you do this, be sure to have the windshield wiper blades heels parked within ¼ inch of the park line. The wiper blade tip may hit the cowl screen several times as the blades roll. If this happens, reposition the wiper blade heel above the park line. Note that the cowl screen is the area between the windshield and the engine. Then make sure you have the wipers in the ‘Park’ position before repositioning.
Cleaning
Replace your Porsche wiper blades after every six months. Have them cleaned too once or twice each month. For cleaning, wipe the blades with a clean clothed soaked well in windshield washer fluid. The fluid you go for should be strong enough to easily get rid of oil, bird droppings and dirt. Remember to also protect your windshield wipers from harsh weather conditions like overexposure to direct sunlight.
Point To Note
Replace your Porsche windshield wiper blades as soon as they start streaking or smearing the windshield. Have the replacement done even if you’ve just cleaned the windshield. Remember to also go through your Porsche’s manual so as to find the appropriate windshield wiper blade size as well as installation technique.Remember your rear windshield wipers are just as important as the front ones. With that in mind, examine them for glitches each time you examine the front wipers. Like already mentioned, wipers affect visibility, which is a safety issue. You cannot therefore, afford to compromise how they function.
