How Do I Maintain My Porsche EGR Valve

Commonly referred to as EGR, this type of valve is contained in many car models created after the 1990s.  EGR is specifically designed for decreasing the amount of nitrogen oxide within the engine. It achieves this by allowing part of exhaust emissions to return to the engine right from the exhaust manifold. These types of valves are mostly used in diesel based engines.  When they are effectively functioning, they help to greatly reduce the amount of emissions. In the case of cracked valve, ensure that it remains closed rather than opened. 

Indications that your Porsche’s EGR Valve is broken

Just like it is with any given engine component, EGR valves are subject to failing in the long run and the sad part of it is that it happens more commonly. Mainly, the EGR valve may break as a result of clogging/blocking or leakage. This will in turn make your Porsche to function improperly and cause a lot of pollution to the atmosphere.  

Symptoms

While there are other EGR-valve symptoms, the most common ones include extreme rough idling, decreased miles/gallon, limp mode or no power, excessive emission of black smoke below the load and often, a fault signal of some kind occurring normally in relation to the age of your car. Note that most of these symptoms are not only common but the same when it comes to efficiency and performance.  In order to avoid this, you will require using a specific first-class injector cleaner within your vehicle’s fuel tank.

Repairing A Porsche EGR Valve

Things could be taking a toll on you; however, before throwing in the towel and deciding to go for a new valve, try fixing it first. While it may not be easy to maintain EGR valves, you can still do that so long as you invest a little amount of your time and money. This will allow for your Porsche’s improved performance of. 

As aforementioned, EGR problems occur as a result of a leakage or clogging. For instance; naturally, diesel is impure and therefore likely to clog at any time. In case your vehicle is unable to recycle the exhaust emissions, then there are high chances of it blocking even further. This may result into your Porsche’s poor performance and ineffectiveness.

What To Do

Consider blowing the EGR valves using a straw. In case the straw you are using is narrow, then you can rest assured that a good amount of exhaust emissions will remain intact. However, with a wider straw, more of the same is going to escape. Now, how do you go about the EGR clogging issue? First and foremost, you need to tide up the valve by going through the following stages: disconnecting your battery, removing the clips or sensors, loosening the EGR valve bolts, spraying the hoses and valve using a carburettor or EGR cleaner and finally, reconnecting the battery.
