How Do I Tighten My Porsche Windshield Wiper Retaining Nut?

Expect ice and slush build up on your windshield wiper blades every so often. It is normal. It gets even better with the fact that solving the problem is a quick, easy fix. All you need to do is to reach out the window, grab the wiper then knock the ice off against your Porsche windshield. There is a setback though that comes along with this kind of easy fix. Do it over and over and before long, your Porsche’s wiper retaining nut will loosen up, making your wipers completely unusable. This is preventable. Read on to learn more.

Tightening The Nuts

Turn off the windshield wiper switch. Make sure the blades drop into the rest position, then turn off the vehicle ignition switch off and detach the ignition key. Gently follow the wiper arm from the wiper blade all the way to its base. This may force you to open the hood.  Place a cardboard or a rubber mat in the base area of the wiper arm. Position the rubber mat so as to protect the glass or paint finish just in case any of the tools you use slips.

Prying

Pry up the plastic dust cap that covers the retaining nut. Make sure the arm position is still in the right angle then use a flat screw driver to gently pry the plastic cap covering the retaining nut at the base. The retaining nut base should be away from the recessed nut well. This should be easy because your Porsche plastic cap may have a slot that will make it easy for you to insert the screw driver. With the dust cap removed, you will have an easy time removing the retaining nut.

Fixing The Hex Nut

Once you have the dust cap off, you can analyze your Porsche’s hex nut which holds the wiper arm in place onto the drive post. Choose the right size socket. Your choice should be one that fits the drive post well. Place the socket on its ratchet or if need be, on the extension attached to the ratchet. Remember there should be no wiggling or extra room once you place the socket over the hex nut. Remember that the ratchet is designed to loosen and tighten both bolts and nuts. So to tighten the retaining nut, simply spin the ratchets in a clockwise direction.

Point To Note

Maintaining any part of your Porsche wipers should be easy. Note though, that maintenance goes beyond examining the wipers. Be keen on not just what needs to be tightened but also what needs to be replaced. Then note that while wiper maintenance may look like something you can easily do on your own, the whole process is complex especially when it comes to modern Porsche models. With that in mind, always refer to your car manual. Then by all means, stick to genuine Porsche spare parts. Reach out too.
