Other parts of the transmission system are the planetary gears, brake band and clutches.
How They Work Together

As an overview, the power flows in an automatic transmission starting from the engine where power is sent to the torque converter pump. From the pump, the transmission fluid sends the power into the converter’s turbine. The transmission fluid is then transferred back to the pump via the stator this time.
As the stator multiply the power coming from the transmission fluid, a vortex power rotation happens inside the torque converter. The turbine spins and sends power to the planetary gears through the central shaft. Depending on which brake band and multiple disc clutch is engaged, the power will make the sun and planetary gear system to either move or stop.
To put it simply, the auto transmission system will power the gears and it makes the car stay stationary or drive depending on the planetary gear arrangement there is in the drive train. The whole process is quite interesting in the sense that everything works in perfect synergy. As long as there is nothing wrong with all the components and that everything moves as expected, then you will be able to drive the car smoothly.
