What Are The Symptoms Of A Bad Porsche Radiator Coolant Overflow?

Your Porsche radiator coolant overflow tank is designed to store excess coolant that is discharged from the radiator when there is pressure build up as a result of excess heat in the engine. Before the radiator coolant overflow goes completely bad and you need to replace it, there are a number of warning signs that you need to be on the lookout for. This will help you to avoid potentially costly repairs and replacements. Read on to learn more about the symptoms of a bad Porsche radiator coolant overflow.

Coolant Leak

One of the most reliable signs of a bad Porsche radiator coolant overflow is coolant leak. Sometimes when the overflow tank gets too old or becomes worn out, it may develop cracks. When this happens, the coolant finds its way through the cracks and leaks out of the tank. In this case, you should be able to see some drops of the coolant on the floor under your Porsche. As soon as you notice that the coolant is leaking, you should first of all clean the floor. This is very important as the leaking coolant is very harmful to animals and in particular pets. The pets may become very sick or even die when they ingest the coolant. You should then have the radiator coolant overflow fixed as soon as possible.

Coolant Odor

Along with the coolant leak, you will get some sweet coolant smell from the front of your vehicle. After a short while, the smell will circulate and fill the cabin of your Porsche. As much as the smell is sweet, you may not want to smell it for a long time.  Therefore, when you get this smell it is important that you have your Porsche radiator coolant overflow tank checked and fixed as soon as possible.

Low Level of Coolant

When you check the level of coolant in your radiator coolant overflow tank and find that it is low, you might have coolant leakage. It may also be as a result of the coolant evaporating slowly. The leakage may be too small to be noticed unless you carefully examine the coolant overflow tank. Sometimes, the leak may be brought about by a poorly placed overflow tank cap. It is therefore important that you check the cap and either close it properly or replace it if you find it to be the cause of the leakage.

Overheated Engine

The main purpose of the coolant is to absorb and dissipate excess heat from the engine. That being said, it is true to state that an overheated engine is one of the symptoms of a bad Porsche radiator coolant overflow. The reason behind this is that in the event there is coolant leakage, your engine will not have enough coolant in the engine. This in turn means that the engine will not be cooled as effectively as necessary. As a result, the engine will become overheated and you will be able to see this on the engine temperature gauge found on the dashboard.
