What Makes The Porsche Exhaust System Unique?
Porsche has an enviable, long standing and respectable reputation in the automotive world for several different reasons. One of the main reasons why the Porsche brand is a name to reckon with has a lot to do with the fact that the company values innovation. This can be seen through their models which needless to say, guarantee perks such as impeccable designs, comfort and performance all while being kind to the environment with emissions that are not harmful to the environment. That is exactly where Porsche exhaust systems come into the picture. Read on to learn more about what makes the systems so unique.
The Concept
The magic starts in the engine. In other words, you cannot understand how your Porsche’s engine works without taking into account a thing or two about the engine. Think of the internal combustion engine as a large air pump. That is, it collects air then mixes it with fuel before adding a spark and igniting air and mixture fuel.
The most important aspect here is combustion. That’s because without combustion, the engine won’t even start in the first place. It does not end there though. With combustion comes waste in the form of ash, soot and smoke. That is as far as any form of combustion is concerned. However, with the Porsche internal combustion process, waste products include carbon particles, gases and other tiny particles suspended in the gases produced during the internal combustion process. The exhaust system steps in to filter this waste and get rid of it from the vehicle.
The Parts
Porsche models feature complex exhaust systems. This is deliberate so as to ensure maximum efficiency. The system feature parts like the exhaust valve, located inside the cylinder head. It opens up after combustion stroke of the Porsche piston is initiated. Then there is the piston, which forces waste gases into the exhaust manifold from the combustion chamber. The exhaust manifold is just as important as the piston as it carries emissions to the catalytic converter from the piston. It is at this point that the emissions run through the catalytic converter which reduces the amount of harmful toxins in the gases for cleaner and safer emissions.
The last two parts of the system are the exhaust pipe and the muffler. The exhaust pipe simply carries emissions from the catalytic converter straight to the muffler. The muffler steps in to play a vital role. Without it, the emissions through the exhaust pipe would be extremely noise. As such, the muffler is more or less like the silencer.
Care And Maintenance
Porsche exhaust systems are easy to maintain mainly because of the design behind them. Be keen though, on common exhaust issues many cars experience solely because of wear and tear. Then remember to replace the exhaust manifold as soon as you notice it is cracked. This should be easy for you to know as cracked exhaust manifolds are preceded by signs such as ticking sound near the engine area. Be sure to also replace the rusted exhaust pipe or muffler. A simple inspection will help you note what needs to be replaced, so consider through exhaust system inspection from time to time.
