Why Do I Hear A Grinding Noise When Igniting My Porsche?

It is never advisable to ignore grinding noise, especially when it is coming from a Porsche. Cars usually develop some faults from time to time. Some of these faults may lead to the car giving a grinding or ticking sound when you start it. Sometimes, you only notice this sound after you accelerate. It is important to check for strange noises whenever you start your car because they could be worse than you thought. If you cannot repair or handle the problem, the best thing to do is to contact a mechanic.

Car Sounds One Must Never Ignore

There are certain sounds you should never ignore in a car, especially when it is a Porsche or another high class car. Knocking sound, grinding sound or squealing sound when accelerating. These sounds mean your car is not in perfect condition and needs to be fixed as soon as possible.

Tension and Idler Pulleys

These are simpler components of a Porsche and are easier to check than other pulleys in your Porsche. One can easily run a check to see if these are bad and if they are the cause of the grinding sound whenever you ignite your car. These pulleys are very important in keeping the accessory belt tight and located where it needs to be. The idler pulley cannot really move as much as the tension pulley. The main purpose of the tension pulley is to keep the adequate amount of tension on the belt.

Catalytic Converter

The catalyst in the catalytic converter can break up into little parts and cause grinding sound whenever you ignite your engine or accelerate your Porsche. The sound this converter creates when broken into pieces can be very annoying most times. The converter is usually metallic and creates an annoying sound like when metals are grinding against other metals. A faulty converter is one of the reasons why your Porsche gives grinding sound when ignited. Pay close attention to the kind of sound it gives and if the sound persists during acceleration, there might be other problems.

The Clutch Throw Out Bearing

This may be another reason your Porsche gives that grinding sound. The clutch throw out bearing may sometimes be called the clutch release bearing. This is like an aid which helps to release clutch flywheel when the clutch pedal is depressed and takes most of the force. Add some weight on the clutch pedal to see if the sound goes away. If you no longer here the sound, then this is the problem. To do this, you will need to remove the clutch, and it may take you some time and extra hand.

IMS Bearing

The IMS bearing is usually responsible for grinding noises or ticking noises which may get louder as the time passes. If you notice noise coming from the front side of the engine, then it could be the problem of the IMS bearing.
