Why Do I See Water Coming Out Of My Porsche Exhaust Pipe?

The process of fuel combustion yields gases that are emitted by the exhaust system into the air. Normally, you should not see water coming out of your exhaust system. In the event that you see water, then there is water in your exhaust system. However, you should not be worried as most of the times it is caused by natural occurrences that do not need to be fixed. There are also other few probable causes that require replacements and you may want to have your Porsche checked. Read on to find out the probable reasons for water coming out of your exhaust pipe.

Condensation

The processes that take place in the combustion chamber of your engine gives out a mixture of carbon dioxide and water as a byproduct. After the engine has been allowed some time to cool, the remaining gases leave the exhaust system through the tailpipe. During cold weather, condensation may occur and therefore you will see water coming out of your exhaust pipe. However, condensation is perfectly normal and there should be no reason for concern if this is the case.

Catalytic Converter

The exhaust gases are emitted from the tailpipe and spread into the outside environment. As a result, it creates air pollution. That is where the catalytic converter comes in. It reduces the exhaust gases before they are emitted from the exhaust pipe. In this way, pollution is greatly reduced. However, the process of reducing the toxicity of the gases that takes place in the catalytic converter yields water vapor. You might notice small droplets coming out of your exhaust pipe that are formed by the water vapor.

Engine Heat

Another probable cause of water coming from your Porsche exhaust pipe is engine heat. This is mostly experienced in places with cold weather and is not a problem. What happens is that the parts of the engine generate a lot of heat when moving. Therefore the engine and the exhaust system become extremely hot.  When the heat meets the cold air outside, water vapor is formed. This is what you see in the form of small water droplets coming out of your exhaust pipe. However, you may notice that the droplets clear away after a short while. The reason behind this is because the parts of the engine need a little time to allow the oil circulate through them before they cool down.

Faulty Piston

Water coming out of your exhaust pipe may also be a result of faulty pistons. In this case you will not only see the water but also smoke coming out of your exhaust pipe. In extreme cases, you will get a burning smell or a sweet aroma. Both these smells indicate that you have a bigger problem than just faulty pistons or piston rings. Therefore, when you get strange smells and see smoke along with water coming from your exhaust pipe, you should have your Porsche checked by a certified mechanic immediately. Failure to do so or delays in doing so will lead to high expenses in terms of repairs and replacements of faulty parts.

Faulty Spark Plugs

When you have faulty spark plugs, there will be incomplete burning of fuel in the combustion chamber of the engine. When this unburnt fuel mixes with water, it forms black smoke. If you drive a Porsche, there is no telling the limits of the embarrassment you will face at the slightest hint of black smoke. The reason behind this incomplete combustion is that the fuel that is pumped to the combustion chamber is not being fully ignited due to faulty spark plugs. It may also be as a result of imbalances in the air and fuel ratio in the combustion chamber caused by a clogged air filter. If even after you have fixed your spark plugs and replaced the air filter, you still see water and black smoke coming from your exhaust pipe, you might have an issue with your fuel injector.
