Why Does My Manual Porsche Often Jump Out of Gear?

Your Porsche transmission is designed to stay in a selected gear until a shift is performed by either a driver or a computer. However if the transmission out of gear when driving, it becomes a serious safety hazard. Therefore you should never drive your Porsche with a slipping gears. Whenever you discover this you should have it inspected and repaired as soon as possible. There may be a number of reasons behind this problem. Read on to learn more about reasons why your Porsche often jumps out of gear.  

Worn Out Transmission Mounts

With time, the transmission mounts may become worn. When this happens the transmission vibrates especially when driving over bumpy or uneven surfaces. This in turn disconnects the engine from the transmission and you may end up with your Porsche jumping out of gear. In order to fix this you need to replace the transmission mounting.

Loose Linkage Rods

Sometimes your car may jump out of gear as a result of loose linkage rods. The linkage rods are rods that link the gear shifter to the transmission. However with time, they may become loose posing problems to your Porsche. When they become loose, your gear shifter does not stay locked in the gear selected. This is what results in your Porsche jumping out of gear.

Worn Out Bearings

Just like any other part of your Porsche that is involved in movement, the bearings that help to keep the gears pressed together are subject to wearing out. If the bearings get worn out, they will not be able to press the gears as required. As a result the gears will slip apart more easily than before. The only way to resolve this is to replace the worn out bearings.

Low or Contaminated Fluid

When you have contaminated fluid or run low on transmission fluid, your Porsche will not function properly. The reason behind this is that the transmission fluid is meant to lubricate the parts of the transmission system to keep them from wearing out. It does this by reducing friction. Low transmission fluid reduces the hydraulic pressure in the system. When this happens, you will not be able to stay in the designated gear. A gear slipping occurs when the engine jumps to a higher RPM and yet the car is not moving faster.

Burnt Fluid

If while your Porsche jumps out of gear you get the smell of burnt toast, you may have the issue of burnt fluid. The reason behind this is overheating of the transmission. As soon as you notice this, you need to change the transmission fluid or have it checked by a professional so as to prevent more costly consequences.

Worn Out Gears

With time, the gears may become worn out due to normal day to day wear and tear or even a malfunctioning set. This in turn poses the challenge of the gears not linking up together properly. This is what leads to a bumpy shift or your Porsche jumping out of gear.
